More Writing: Another Economics Idea To Benefit European Countries
My latest idea for helping European countries, such as France, England, and Germany, is based on the idea of a "government subsidized race." The idea is just that different companies in different groups, perhaps defining groups of companies based on geographic location only, enter into a voluntary "race" if they choose to (on their business tax return or whatever--I assume businesses file tax returns too, without knowing for sure in either Europe or the US), where the retail firm that generates the most quantity supplied individual items in one year in each group/category wins a $1 million (in equivalent European currency) prize from the government.
Although it might be possible to manipulate the contest by selling items broken up into pieces or selling tiny items, there are surely ways around that; restrictions could apply to prohibit excessive "downsizing of portions" of items that are being sold. You could say that a certain minimum net weight for each product of a particular type must be met, and you could have different categories of products with different rules.
Ultimately, I think this is a very good idea that countries that are struggling with slow economic growth could use to create a "race" among businesses, leading to lower prices in some cases and more sales. It would enhance both the national GDP of each participating country, and it would help average consumers save money at the store...in particular, the store that wins the race would be a good store to shop at, since its prices would likely be lowered to increase the amount of "quantity supplied" of items in that store over the year. Basically, the contest generates a win-win outcome for both the top business that can win, and for customers who are shopping at any store they please. Enthusiasm for purchasing and for running the top business will increase by a lot; it might not be so great to be the number 2 company, but I claim that the company that wins the race and the consumers who choose to shop there will be very pleased in terms of their financial outcomes from this business race idea.
Update: I think this idea should be applied to small businesses only. Also, it could be tried in USA states!
