Mentalizing Other People's Minds
I learned something cool in group today with Dr. Weir. It was just a reminder, really: Sometimes, metallization takes the form of empathetically mentalizing other people's minds, i.e., "holding their mind in mind."
Here are some people whose minds I am going to mentalize:
- FBI agents
- doctors
- people who have called the FBI on my behalf (maybe anyway)
- concerned acquaintances who have heard what happened to me but haven't reached out to me
- the people who gesture at me who seem to be trying to mess with me (I think they're paid private security force workers)
One thing I got from the gestures yesterday is, the FBI is probably much less "aroused" than I am by my situation. They know how it will go and have seen situations worse than this before with other victims, so they are aware of the fact that they are not an alarmed by what's going on as I am. They don't feel that much of a sense of unusually high urgency about all this, because they know what I do not know.
I have been calming down though. Mentalizing out loud and in public on a blog helps me with that.
